I love it when I come across easy, fun dresses that don't require you to layer under and/or over them (and why is that so hard to find?!). So, when I spotted this bright purple dress with the extra detailing of the cinched sides and pockets I knew I needed to grab it. It was the perfect piece to just had a patterned infinity scarf and booties too.

I have to admit it - I kept petting myself in this outfit. This sweater is so soft and the fur so cuddly and warm. I decided to do some fairly bold pattern mixing too with the stripe shirt and print skirt as I was inspired by a look on Pinterest (imagine that!).

Today was the first Monday in over 4 weeks that I had to work one and whoa, I could feel it! I have become addicted to 3-day weekends. Oh well, until I win that lottery I better just enjoy. A great way to celebrate a Monday is by wearing a fun, new zigzag skirt. I just can't get enough of adding this bright royal blue to black and white (I did here, here and here also).

One of the blogs I enjoy reading is I want to be her! by Andrea Linett (co-founder of Lucky Magazine). Recently they shared Lara, and I fell in love with her snakeskin platform pumps.

I love it when I can find "trendy" things by the way of vintage goodies at a thrift store. This past spring or summer (I think) H&M introduced some horse print items (dress, shirt, skirt and some scarves). I saw them on other bloggers and loved the print, but never made it to the store to get some horses for myself. So, last month while I was thrifting I was ecstatic to find this horse print vintage blouse. I love that it has the trendy horse print while still being unique.

I opted to pair the top with a red cardigan and red necklace to do some monochromatic layering. Normally I would have grabbed more other colors, but like the look of red on red on red that I pinned a while back (picture below).

I spied a look on Pinterest earlier in the week showing a shortsleeve turtleneck over a satin blouse with a large statement necklace. I loved it! I couldn't wait till Casual Friday to wear my take on it either, so I grabbed some black pants (yep, the same pair from Monday - I figured it was okay since I only wore them for 2 hours and saw completely different people today) and gave it a go myself.

In a couple of weeks Indianapolis is going to be crazy hosting the 46th Super Bowl. I wanted to be a part of the action, so I am taking a break from my real job to work for the NFL for 5 days. I am super excited to be a "face of the city" and greet all the NFL executives and their high-end clientele. The only downside for this fashionista is the "uniform" - white button up shirt and khaki pants complete with a NFL jacket.

With having two new white button up shirts in my closet I wanted to look for some sartorial inspiration for once the big game is over. I will definitely be giving some of these a go:

And some times outfits just don't go as planned . . . When I woke up this morning my plan was to wear this black and white stripe blouse with a full purple skirt (last worn here). Well, the skirt doesn't fit the same as it did back in October and was too big. It just kind of hung there and the blouse was too baggy itself to even try to make it work. So I had to go with a quick plan b, and since I was already wearing the shirt and black tights I went simple and grabbed this black pencil skirt. Since my office has been especially cold this week I topped it off with this cardigan. The end result being "you kind of look like a stewardess" according to one of my co-workers.

It seems I have re-injured my toe. After working out on Sunday it hurt bad on Monday and 2 hours in heels was about all I could do. So, I knew I needed to wear some flats today. I decided to grab some recent fab finds to create the rest of the outfit.

I bought this gorgeous paisley print tunic recently at Goodwill. It has slits up the side and it is kind of sheer so layering over and under was the way to go (and thank goodness I did layer because it was flippin' freezing in my office today!).

Be like a Celeb - Wear a Headband

One of the trends I loved seeing on the red carpet at the Golden Globes this past Sunday was the use of headbands to accessorize an outfit. Headbands have been around for a few seasons (thanks, Blair Waldorf). However, I am much more in to the jewel ones vs. the big bows, so I think I need to give this look a try.

I had the day off on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but had a meeting in the morning that I wanted to look pulled together for. I decided to do a classic combo of camel and black and top it off with these gorgeous cap-toe wedges and pearl accents. As I pulled this outfit together I chuckled at how inexpensive it all was. Gotta love thrift and consignment stores!

Miss You Grandma Judy

It is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the 6th anniversary of loosing my Grandma Judy today. They say time heals all wounds, but I guess it hasn't been nearly enough time yet. I miss her just as much and don't see that changing.

Grandma Judy taught me so much about shopping - sticking to a budget, only buying things you truly needed and how to score a bargain. She was a true fashionista who understood the importance of red lips and nails, the pop of accessories and the power of bling.

I love looking back and seeing how fabulous she dressed and just had to share with you all also.

When you have a great, bold dress it can be hard to come up with ways to remix it and create different looks. That is exactly how I feel about this dress. I know I could put a cardigan, vest or blazer over, but I love the tab epaulet details at the shoulders and it would be a shame to cover them up. So, I ultimately wore it very similar to the last time I wore this dress. I decided to wear a different belt and shoes this go around. Plus, I chose not to wear a necklace, but rather take a little styling tip from FFF Week-Summer 2011 and add this black and white scarf tied on to the shoulder tab.

I got up this morning, got all ready wearing this fabulous new to me vintage cardigan and right after I snapped this pic starting feeling extremely ill. Needless to say I quickly changed back into my pjs and called it a day. As I type this I am hoping it was just a quick tummy bug as I am feeling much better and hope to be completely back to normal by tomorrow.

Now about this sweater, Goodwill had my favorite day this past Saturday - 50% off everything. I happened to be in a slightly different part of town than normal running an errand and came across a Goodwill I hadn't been to. It ended up being a goldmine of vintage finds. I got this cardigan with its gorgeous silver metal closures, a lightweight red wool coat with amazing pleating on the shoulders and a beautiful black on black beaded jacket for the whopping total of $7!

Whoever at Old Navy decided to make this polka dot sweater needs a big old hug! I love this thing. I had spied the navy and white polka dot on on several bloggers prior to Christmas and knew I just had to have it too. When I arrived at the store and saw this bright pink one and on sale for $15 no less I definitely had to get it. I originally wore this sweater on New Years Eve Day for shrimp cocktail and cocktails with my family for lunch (at Harry and Izzy's for you locals).

My intentions were to simply re-wear that same outfit for Casual Friday at work, but given my toe situation I had to do flats. That changed the jeans I could wear because my wider leg jeans are too long for flats, so I went with these new slim cut ones (that I scored for a steal at Nordstrom Rack). With that the sweater was just a bit to short, imo, so I layered the white long sleeve tee underneath.

In the end, this was the perfect outfit for a day at work, followed by walking (because it was a gorgeous 50 degrees in January) to appetizers and beers (at Hearthstone for you locals), followed by more walking to a friend's home for more drinks with her and her boyfriend. Glad I opted for flats with all that walking!

Last week I wore a lot of flat boots because I was in a comfy, cozy holiday mode. This week I am sporting a lot of flat boots because I hurt my foot on New Year's Day (someone left their big old shoe in the middle of the room and in the dark on my way to the bathroom I didn't see it!). At first I thought my pinky toe may be broken, but I think it is just sort of sprain complete with bruising. Heels are a definite no-go right now and even in flat boots I still hobble around a bit. I hope to be back in heels soon because I just got some adorable ones delivered by my UPS man yesterday!

Well, it was the first day back to work after a long weekend and it was a rough one. I didn't take time to think about what to wear last evening, it was FREEZING OUT (coldest temps yet this winter and while I should be use to it being a native Hoosier I am not!) and my camera didn't feel like taking a non-blurry photo. And with that, this is what I ended up with. I had worn this sweater/shirt combo on Christmas Day with skinny jeans and a different necklace, but never got a chance to snap a picture.

This outfit is soooooooooooooo last year, but I thought I would share it anyway! :-) I ordered this cape from eShakti recently and actually like it more than I thought I would. Sometimes the fabric can be a little overwhelming with a cape, but this was perfect to wear in place of sweater or cardigan. It was nice and easy to wear all day at work with this casual look (can't wait to pair with a pencil skirt soon either).

Missoni for Target at Goodwill

I had heard on a couple of blogs and on Twitter that there had been sightings of Missoni for Target items at Goodwill. I was intrigued - - was it really possible that items from the collection that crashed Target's website and sold out everywhere was actually showing up at Goodwill? So over the holiday weekend I stopped in 3 Goodwills that are all located withing 4 miles of my house. It was at the third one I spotted a couple of things. They had 2 barrettes and a head scarf from this set. They also had a pair of the Missoni Pumps in a size 5 1/2. I opted to grab the hair accessories priced at $1.99 and $2.99 and left the shoes behind since I already had them and don't have any friends that wear such a small size.

They also had some other Target new stock goodies that I grabbed - a pair of wedge shoes, 3 belts and a necklace (priced at $4.49 and $0.99 each).

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and hopefully enjoyed some extra time off work (and hopefully you still are!). I spent the majority of my Christmas Eve Day wearing lounge wear around the house, however, we did go out that night. We wanted to stop by Bed Bath and Beyond to buy a Ninja - - watch out, we are blending everything now! Also, we had dinner reservations at Seasons 52 (seriously my favorite chain restaurant) before coming back home to have "our Christmas". I kept things simple by grabbing the same dress I wore to work on Thursday, but this time I accessorized with a brown belt and boots.

I have been crazy for the color camel lately. I spotted this jacket from Old Navy last week and immediately thought "I want!".

So when I came across the jacket I am wearing today for only $5 I just had to get it! It is wool, completely lined and NOT from a thrift store. I couldn't believe the deal. I love the look of camel with royal blue, so decided to layer the jacket over this royal blue dress I thrifted a couple of weeks ago.

Weightloss Update

I shared back in August that I had started a weight loss journey in February 2011. I received and still receive a ton of positive and supportive comments and emails, and thought I owed a bit of an update on where I am at right now.

I know I enjoy and pull inspiration from Alison and Tammy's updates, and hope others will feel the same with mine.

At last night's weigh-in I earned another 5 pound star for a total of 60 pounds lost! Walking into it I knew I was right on the edge of hitting the, but also knew I had indulged pretty good on Italian Food and the dessert table at a family Christmas this past Sunday. So when I hit it I was pretty darn pleased with myself. It is truly the best Christmas present I could have given myself.

Not only does looking in the mirror make me smile when I see the "new body" looking back at me, but I have enjoyed having more energy, my knees not hurting when going up or down stairs, and I haven't had any acid reflux (I use to have a prescription for Nexium). It truly is amazing what eating better and loosing weight can do for your body (ha, what a concept!).

My Weight Watchers meeting moved to a new retail facility this past week and it is bright and cheerful inside with lots of fun quotes on the wall. One reads "I truly can eat like this for the rest of my life", and I couldn't agree more. I know a lot of people start giving their weight thought around the first of the year. If you are one of those people I truly recommend Weight Watchers. The concept is simple - you can eat anything you want, just in moderation and the more you move the better off you are. However, I have found the points system extremely beneficial in quantifying this concept and it definitely works for me and so many others.

Lastly, with my weight loss I encountered something interesting. My feet have shrunk! I have worn a size 9 since middle school and I weighed a similar amount as I do now in high school and college, yet with loosing 60 pounds now my foot has gone from a 9 to a 8 1/2. The last 4 pairs of shoes I have bought I have gotten in an 8 1/2. In my other shoes I am sticking insoles and rubber heel grips in all of my 9s. It's crazy! Anyone know how to "shrink" shoes? :-)

I bought this skirt this past weekend (at the same time I bought the skirt from yesterday). I almost past on it because of its funky length - - its too long to be a midi and too short to be a maxi, so it just ends up being a weird in-betweeni. However, I loved the color and the price was totally reasonable, so why not buy it.

When I got it home and realized how well it matched this newly acquired top from Old Navy I was happy I decided to "splurge".

I am working this week, but that doesn't keep me from listening to holiday music and getting in the spirit. One of the best things about the holidays is of course the shopping and while it is better to give than to receive I just can't help but to give myself a few new things -- like this skirt! On Friday I grabbed my trusty combo of scarf, skinnies and boots for a casual day at work followed by yummy Greek food and a night of shopping and wrapping. I have been done shopping for my family (and wrapping) for a while now. However, we tend to wait for the last minute to get Dave's family their gifts. We got it done though which is good because we traveled about 2 hours away on Sunday to celebrate the holidays with them!

In the pics below you will see a close-up of a locket necklace that you can't see in the full-length picture. This is a little trick I do - I like to layer a necklace under my scarf because I know 99% of the time I will ditch the scarf at some point and I still like to be accessorized!

I may have mentioned this before, but I love stripes! When my co-worker/friend wore this sweater to work a couple of weeks ago I may have said "I'm going to need to borrow that" before I even said good morning. Lucky for me she is a good friend and agreed. I knew I would love it layered over polka dots, and when I scored this skirt this past weekend the I knew the purple would be great with the combo!

2011 Work Outfit Recap

I have done yearly reviews and recaps of my outfits over the past couple of years (check then out here - 2008, 2009, 2010) and just had to do it again this year.

I randomly selected one outfit from each month that I wore to work (during the "business casual days" - I'll share a casual recap next week). 2011 was a year of changes for me - - my hair got longer, I lost quite a bit of weight and I changed jobs. It was a great year - one filled with lots of fun outfits and all of you fabulous readers!

Let's take a look:

Next up, my statistics for the year. These numbers are calculated on the 190 daily outfit pictures I took in 2011 (as of the time I typed this up).

I wore a belt 33% of the time (-11% from 2010), a scarf as a belt .10% of the time (-4.9% from 2010) and utilized built in belts on dresses and tops 5% of the time (-3% from 2010) for a grand total of 39% of the days having some sort of waist definition (-14% from 2010). I still love waist definition, but I lowered my percentages greatly from 2010 which was my lowest year previously. Belts are still a great accessory, but I am glad to see that I haven't relied on them so much as years past.

I wore black or charcoal gray as the base color in my outfits on 77 days for a total of 41% of the time (-15% from 2010). Glad to see that I am becoming more colorful!

I wore a skirt or dress 56% of the time (-4% from 2010)! I realize I still don't wear a lot of pants during my Monday - Thursday "work wear". The percentage drop probably stems from still having "Casual Fridays" and thrifting some great pants this year.

And a couple of more categories that I introduced in 2010:

I wore a scarf 16% of the days (not as a belt) (-2% from 2010).

I wore a cardigan with 32% of my outfits (such a great layering piece throughout the year) (-4% from 2010).

I added a trendy necklace 35% of the time (-20% from 2010). Necklaces really are my favorite accessory despite wearing them less than in 2010.

All in all, I feel I had a successful year wardrobe wise. My entire wardrobe had to be replaced this year due to going down a couple of sizes. I am thankful that I was able to thrift so many great pieces to make this transition so much easier on my wallet!

I adore the look of casual chambray with skirts and the such for office appropriate outfits. While this shirt isn't exactly chambray, it does have a similar look and casualness about it. I opted to pair it with a red pencil skirt and finished off the look with black which worked nicely for a rainy Tuesday!

Target New Stock at Goodwill - - I get a lot of questions and comments about the availability of new Target items at Goodwill. I did a little research on the topic and thought I would share. Target donates customer returns and damaged merchandise to Target along with other items (often after the items have been clearanced out and stock still remains from my experience) and has since at least 1991 (source). I have also read that Goodwill purchases products from Target for $0.10 on the dollar, but I can't recall where I read that to confirm my source. From what I have seen from other bloggers, Goodwills across the nation have Target new stock (confirmed in Texas, North Carolina, Minnesota, Ohio, Georgia, Illinois and Indiana). I am guessing if there is a Goodwill in fairly close proximity to a Target they will have some items.

I learned from a rep from the Central Indiana Goodwills that Target New Stock Items make up roughly 10% of all items sold in Goodwill Stores. Locally they refer to these items as "grey ware" and are designated with a grey paper tag on clothing and a grey sticker on housewares, furniture, etc.

On Friday and Saturday I wore my "casual uniform" - - top, skinny jeans, scarf and boots. It is such a comfy combo that can look fairly different from day-to-day depending on colors and patterns that you mix.

On Friday I wore a newly thrifted red tunic that had a great pocket on the front. Talk about snuggly, plus it has cute buttons across the left shoulder that I failed to snap a pic of.

I can't get enough of leopard, so when my co-worker/friend walked in wearing this fabulous leopard dress last week I said "I'm going to need to borrow that". She graciously agreed and brought it to me. As for the styling of it I didn't do much different from how she wore it besides adding a necklace and my shoes aren't the standard all black. With a dress like this you don't have to do too much to it!

That all changed this past Saturday at Goodwill. I scored this Target New Stock gem for only $1.50 (it should have been $3, but I noticed later when at home that the cashier rang it up as a sleeveless shirt vs. a dress).

This past Saturday my local Goodwill had 50% off everything, and I made sure to take advantage of it! I ended up only hitting up one of the stores, but that was good enough. I bought 5 Target New Stock Items, a dress, skirt, cardigan sweater and 2 tops . . . for the grand total of $20 and some change.

The cardigan and skirt I wore on Monday were two of the Target Items that I bought. I loved how well they went together, so it made for a simple outfit to grab for a Monday.

I love it when I buy a clothing item that I wear a couple of times close together. That means I really, really like it! As soon as I saw this black and white cardigan at Goodwill I knew it would be a great piece. At first I envisioned it layered over a purple dress (definitely going to do that soon also), but I ended up pairing it with jeans the first couple of times.

A week ago this past Saturday, I wore it very casually to head to an art fair and lunch out.

Three of the items I wore on Thursday I bought on the same day (at the same thrift store). When I bought them I hadn't planned on wearing them together though. Then earlier in the week I decided to wear this navy dress and thought pairing with my brown boots was a good idea. That led me to thinking about adding this brown belt with it and from there decided to add the yellow cardigan because of the yellow on the belt buckle. Funny how that all worked out!

Some days I have a great inspiration for an outfit and some days (like today) I go with what is clean and doesn't need ironing. In this case, I kicked off the outfit with the pants. I thrifted these pants over the weekend for only 99 cents, came home and tossed them in the washer/dryer and boom made an outfit with them. Snow was also in the forecast so this cozy oversized sweater seemed like a good addition also.

A lot of times I will see pics on Pinterest and other blogs that inspire an outfit of my own. Today's look is just a straight up copy though! I liked the leopard with the white bow blouse, skinny black pants and brown boots, and since I had all of the same pieces I just went with it.

Interestingly enough, I watched an episode of Felicity (I never watched the show the first time around, so I am watching the whole series on Netflix currently) where she copied a thesis paper for her art history paper while I wore this outfit.

One look I have been repeatedly attracted to a slouchy maxi skirt/dress outfit. Now, this look works on super tall and skinny chicks, but what about me? I decided to give it a whirl on Thanksgiving Day for a cozy small dinner at my aunt and uncle's. I feel like the outfit looked better in person than the pic below, but one thing is for sure it was super comfortable and perfect for packing away a turkey dinner in.

Thrift Store Gold - - that is the best way describe this dress! I found this dress a couple of years ago at a thrift store for $5. I could tell it was vintage and it still had the original paper sales tag hanging on it. At the time it was too small, but I bought it anyway because I loved the print and just knew it was a great find.

The brand of the dress is Cover Girl of Miami (more info here). I did a little research and found out the brand was in business from 1951 to 1972, so even if this dress was manufactured during the last year it is 39 years old! It is amazing condition, and I got a ton of compliments on it the day I wore it. There are a few other Cover Girl of Miami Dresses online for sale on Etsy and vintage online stores. The range in price from $40 - $350. See what I mean, my $5 find truly is thrift store goal!!

So I said forget that, let's go more casual and comfy. So leggings, this dress (more tunic length for me), a vest and flat boots it was!

'Tis the Season for Shopping!

The holiday season is fast approaching and with that comes SHOPPING!! We have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday starting to take place at the end of this week. With that I thought I would share a couple of my fav ways to save money this holiday season.

First off, want to get a jump start and planning your Black Friday shopping strategy? Head over to BF Ads to check out all the good deals that will be released this Friday (click on Ad Scans - 7th option down in the left hand column is my fav way to look).

Small Business Saturday is a great initiative started by American Express last year to encourage people to shop local business. I encourage you check out some shops in your area or at least make a few Etsy purchases this holiday season (I have found so many good things on Etsy so far this year and the customer service is through the roof!).

And finally, Cyber Monday - the day everyone goes back to work and shops the day away. I am a big fan of online shopping throughout the year, but really like the stress-free shopping opportunities it provides this time of year in particular. Online Retailers offer great free shipping deals and promo codes that really help save money. Also, my #1 piece of advice for online shopping (year-round) is to sign up for EBATES!! Through this free service you earn rebate cash (anywhere from 1% - 20%) based on your online purchases at any of their 1,000+ partnered retailers. I know it can sound too good to be true, but I have been an avid Ebates shopper since 2007 and have racked up over $700 cash back (quarterly deposits into my Paypal Account - you can get checks too). You get $5 just for signing up, so do it!

This past weekend I was thrifting with a friend and we hit the jackpot on "80's Secretary Dresses" (you know the ones - bold prints, shoulder pads and lots of polyester). I have to admit I am attracted to these types of dresses, but often leave them on the rack for fear of looking too dated. However, I fell in love with this one and just had to get it (the fact it was less than $3 didn't hurt either). So today I decided to pair it with leather and black accessories so at least if I look like a 1980s Secretary I will be a bad ass 1980s Secretary!

I love your blog and am inspired by your fashion choices AND your weight loss! I just saw on Twitter that you have lost 50+ lbs. on WW. I'm a WWer too, and have lost 40 since March.

Here's my question- how has your shopping style changed? What about your sizing? I feel as if it took me a LONG time to get from an 18 to a 16, but now I feel as if I will wear a size 14 within the next 10 lbs. or so. Did you have a similar experience? Also, as you bridge into regular misses' sizing, how will that change how you shop? I know that you do a lot of shopping at Goodwill, and I can understand why- NOTHING is more frustrating to me right now than having clothes that don't fit and not a lot of $ to replace them. But will you start shopping at other stores that you couldn't fit before? Are there any stores or even looks that you're looking forward to with a smaller body?

Sorry, I know that's a lot of questions at once. But I would love to see you answer some of these questions about weight loss, shopping, and fashion.

Leight Anne, thanks for the questions. First off, a big congrats to you! Loosing 40 pounds is a major accomplishment. As of last night's weigh-in I am down 53.8 pounds and have my eye on 55 by next Wednesday (what a way to kick off the holiday season!).

Now on to the questions! How has your shopping style changed? To be honest, my shopping over the past few months has been almost exclusively at thrift stores. I have seen such a swing with my sizes and needed to replace almost all of my bottoms and dresses. Plus, as you know I like having a lot of variety so hitting up Goodwill and Value World has been the way to go for me. I don't have endless funds for my wardrobe so thrifting was a great way to get a lot of variety without breaking the bank. What about your sizing? Back in February (before I joined WW) I was wearing an 18 (and some 20s). Today I am in 14s with a few 10s and 12s (in skirts and dresses). Like you I felt it took forever to get out of my 18s, but now it seems like items are fitting me differently every couple of weeks and most of my old clothes are simply too big to make work. Also, as you bridge into regular misses' sizing, how will that change how you shop? To be honest, I find this a little daunting. I was so used to going into plus size stores and plus size sections which were much more limited in selection. The idea of being able to go into any store in the mall or the larger sections at discount and department stores is a little overwhelming to me. This past Friday I was with my mom at Burlington Coat Factory and while I could have shopped in the misses section I didn't. Granted I am trying to be good and focus on holiday shopping right now too. But will you start shopping at other stores that you couldn't fit before? Definitely! I have in mind some "big ticket" items I want to get when I hit my goal weight (a DVF wrap dress, a gorgeous pair of leather boots that fit my calves). If I will actually splurge on them when the time comes is another story. However, I know that I will definitely change the stores I shop at because my past plus size stores won't be an option for this new body I am working on. Are there any stores or even looks that you're looking forward to with a smaller body? Hmmm, I would definitely like to shop at LOFT more and not have to search high and low for XLs or the few 16/18s that they stock. H&M will also get a lot more visits. I would also love to get a pair of Christie Flare Pants in red from Victoria's Secret. While I could already fit in a pair I have held off because I don't want to drop $70 on a pair of pants that won't fit in a month or two. As for looks, I am definitely enjoying wearing jeggings/skinny jeans more (and not feel like my tops need to be w/in 2 inches of my knee caps!). Also, I don't feel the need for my hemlines to be to the mid-point of my knee or longer. I am sure there are other things too.

I definitely know my shopping with change, but I have to say I have been so grateful for Goodwill and Value World. Without thrift stores my wardrobe would have been in major trouble!

I am loving leather this fall! One thing I am sad about no longer being able to wear is my black pleather skirt that I bought back in 2010. I have had my eyes open for a replacement skirt while thrifting, but unfortunately all the fab black leather skirts seem to be no bigger than a size 6 (insert sad face here!). I did come across this croc-embossed brown pleather skirt this past weekend and just had to get it. Another thing I have been wanting to try is wearing a cardigan backwards. I decided this mustard colored cardi would be a good one to try the look with (see it worn the "right" way here).

Weekend DIY - Bright Rhinestone Necklace

I first saw some Tom Binns neon necklaces this past spring that made me say, "I want one". However, their $2,000+ price tags made them far from my reach.

Then I saw some Spike the Punch necklaces on Etsy. While the price tag was much more reasonable they were selling like hotcakes, and I just kept thinking I could make something similar.

So finally on Friday while I was out shopping with my mom I spied a rhinestone necklace for only $10, and yesterday afternoon I gathered up some bright colors of nailpolish that I had on hand.

About 15 minutes later I had this eye-catcher:

I'm in love! I already wore it out last night with a black/white striped button up shirt, skinny jeans and boots. It added the perfect pop of color and fun glam to the outfit.

This outfit is one of those that just sort of happened. On Tuesday evening I was picking out something to wear when Dave called me into the other room. I happen to have slipped this dress on to see what it looked like (I had thrifted it over the summer but had never worn it). Dave said "that's cute", so I decided to go ahead and wear it yesterday. I don't often ask his opinion, but went ahead and asked him what color of shoes to go with it (I was thinking purple or deep red). He threw me for a loop when he said yellow, but after seeing this cardigan with the bit of yellow in the flowers I decided it would work. The shoes got compliments left and right during my day at work. I'm lucky to have such a fashionable fellow!

It is hard to believe that it was going to be 70 on Tuesday here in Indianapolis. We seldom have temps that warm in November (as you read this though temps have drastically dropped). I've seen Bee of Atlantic Pacific rock the double button-ups a couple of times, and every time she does I pin the look thinking "I need to do that soon". I finally remembered the inspiration when I was pulling together today's outfit. Also, I am always a fan of green with black and white, plus adding in the pink heels and necklace seemed like a good little extra pop.

The Outfit Inspiration Calendar suggested a Vest and Jeans combo, so I decided to pull out this oldie but goodie vest for casual Friday. Since the color palette was neutral I decided to add in a little pattern mixing by wearing the vest over a floral shirt.

I am lucky to have a friend, Emily, that loves to go thrifting as much as me. However, I'm not so lucky in the fact that said friend and I wear the same sizes and we have a very similar style. This can cause a bit of tension while out thrifting if one of us spots a fabulous item that the other also adores. However, being the mature ladies that we are we play nice and share our thrifted goodies.

I saw this skirt first a couple of weeks ago and for its less than $2 price tag knew I was going to buy it. Emily quickly gave me the puppy dog eyes to which I said "you can borrow whenever you want". She took me up on it and actually borrowed the skirt before I had ever wore it. She wore it this past weekend pairing it with black and some fun necklaces (see below). I played around with a couple of looks, but opted to go with a similar pairing with a top and cardigan.

Splurge vs. Steal - Albertus Swanepoel Leopard Hat

Albertus Swanepoel is a well-known milliner whose designs sell for $300+. So when he did a collaboration with J.Crew and offered a couple of designs between $150-200 it was exciting (but still out of my price range for a hat).

It was even more exciting when Target announced he was going to do a 14 piece collection for them with all of the hats being priced at $19.99! I scored this great leopard one this past weekend and let me tell you I love it! It will be perched happily on the top of my head lots this fall and winter.

They have 2-packs of Hue Tights for only $12 - great deal on my fav brand of tights! The rich shade was the perfect way to add some color to this cream and grey dress.

This past Saturday I stopped into Goodwill real quick and spotted this amazing top. The pattern with it's mix of writing, lions and other faces called to me. A few racks over I came across this plum pencil skirt. Seeing the two items together in my cart made me realize how well the top goes with the skirt despite their being no plum in the top. A little later that same day I was at Nordstrom Rack and fell in love with these shoes. A lovely new outfit was born, but I can't wait to mix these items up in other ways also.

Here's a blast from the past look - - well, not that long ago but a week ago this past Friday. The outfit inspiration was cream, leopard and red. My first thought was a red scarf with a leopard shoe, but I discovered I don't have a red pashmina (I've since then remedied that!). So I did the reverse and went with a leopard scarf and deep red shoes.

When I stumbled upon this argyle sweater jacket a couple of weekends ago at a thrift store I was thrilled. I had been pinning a lot of camel and black/grey combos on pinterest and was wanting to add some of the color combo to my closet. When I saw that it had an International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union tag inside I was even more excited (I love clothes with a history). Oh yeah, and I was absolutely thrilled that it was only $2.75!

It was another gorgeous day with sunshine and temps almost 70, so I decided to celebrate being tights-free and had lunch outside (unfortunately it looks like it will be the last day like it for a long while). My mom picked up this great dress for me last week. I decided to dress down the satin on it a bit with a grey cardigan and finished off with these fun heels and a strand of large pearls.

I've had on my "wish list" a "dressy denim" skirt for a while now since my last one no longer fit. When I spied this one at Goodwill this past Friday I was thrilled. I washed it was ready to go to wear it on "pencil skirt" day per the Outfit Inspiration I pulled together for the week. It only made sense to pair it with the striped blouse that I thrifted during the same shopping trip. To finish off the look I went with some pattern mixing with the shoes instead of the red pair of heels I initially thought about wearing.

My outfit inspiration for today was Casual Dress, Scarf and Boots. It was the perfect combination for a rainy, cool day, so I grabbed this convertible dress (check out all the ways you can use the built-in ties below) and a pair of flat black boots that I recently purchased. I opted to go for a small, more stream-lined look with the scarf since there was so much going on with the ties on the dress already.

Friday's inspiration picture is one of my favs. It showed stripes layered over stripes and a bright shoe. Unfortunately, I didn't have a striped shirt similar to the black and white one that was worn as the under layer, so I opted to go with black and white polka dot one. I really liked the final look.

I stopped by a Goodwill at the end of the day (had a little time to kill between work and meeting up with the fam for dinner). What do you know, I found a black/white striped shirt almost exactly like the one in the inspiration picture (of course I bought it because I can't get enough stripes!). The Goodwill Gods were kind to me yet again (now, if only I could have fit into the size 36 Escada Blazer I spotted there).

Ruffles were the game plan today based on the inspiration pics I pulled together earlier this week. Then I grabbed my "Thursday Pants" - - yep, it seems I gravitate towards these pants on Thursdays (take a look here, here, and here). I guess the inspiration is running thin towards the end of the week.
