When I buy an article of clothing I try to mentally put together a couple of outfit ideas incorporating the item in my mind before I drop the dough on it. It helps me visualize the item working with my wardrobe and staying away from purchases that never end up out of the closet (or worse the bag!).
So with Lane Bryant's big 40% off everything sale I have been going over their website selecting items that I like and envisioning them working with my current wardrobe. One item that caught my eye in particular is the Tweed Sweater Jacket that is currently on sale for $39. I love that it has a classic Chanel Jacket look, but it is a sweater and more comfy (in my opinion) since it would move and stretch more than a normal jacket.

So, I put together a few outfits using other current Lane Bryant items (and a couple of other retailers) that are similar to clothing items I already have. It looks like this jacket is a winner!

Do you visual clothes fitting into your wardrobe prior to purchase also?

My preferred method is to purchase the entire outfit at the same time!
If I give in to temptation and buy one item, half the time it either ends up not being worn or I have to go out and buy something else to complete the ensemble.
Other than simple items like jeans or black pants, I can never remember excatly what I've got at home.
Absolutely. I just mentioned this on my blog a few days ago in my post about transitioning into fall and thinking about what to buy before you go shopping for the new season.
I think that's so interesting what Northmoon said, "My preferred method is to purchase the entire outfit at the same time!" I hardly EVER do that.
I buy random pieces, and then think of at least 3 ways to wear it before I buy it. It's actually become a fun challenge too!
I say go for it, the jacket is cute and you clearly have the mixing and matching down!
Yes!! you need this sweater. Its very nice!
Like Dina, I have a 3 outfit rule too, but only in my head, I don't use Polyvore usually.
I read a blog where a blogger said (I forget who, unfortunately, but it might have been Sally at Already Pretty) she doesn't buy things unless they already go with two other items in her wardrobe. So I think visualizing what else it would go with is important. I've bought plenty of things that I ended up not wearing because I didn't know what to wear it with.
