Reader Question - Wedding Options

ReaderQuestion

I am going to an evening wedding at the end of May. I have been struggling with what to wear. Rather than a wedding dress, the bride is wearing a white cocktail dress. I want to be dressy but not too dressy.

So I have two separate questions. 1. Given a simple little black dress, how would you accessorize it to add interest? 2. Given a blank slate, what would you wear?

Love your blog. I have gotten some great inspiration from your posts! - Rachel

Rachel, thanks so much for the questions and blog love. I strongly agree with the adage that it is better to be over-dressed than under-dressed, and I don't know what it is but it seems a lot of people are under-dressed for weddings anymore.

First up, we have a look pulled together around a simple black dress. I added a pop of color with the light turquoise and silver necklace which adds a nice airy element to the black dress. Also, I pulled a jacket for the look. The silver and white jacket can instantly dress up the LBD for pictures but then can be shed to get your groove on when the music starts later in the evening. Also, I added a skinny silver belt and heels for extra shine without being over done.

Next up I grabbed a bright magenta sheath dress. I am strong believer in not having clothes that only work for one occasion. While you may purchase this dress for a wedding it can soon become a go-to piece for work, date night and more! With the wedding in mind though, I added black accessories, but kept them far from basic with the bib necklace and embellished shoes. Once again, these pieces can be mixed and matched into a bevy of outfits.

I hope this gives you some ideas, Rachel. Have a great time at the wedding!
