Daily Outfit - 05/14/10

dailywear

The Outfit Inspiration Calendar called for White Shirt & Statement Necklace Combo as shown on Olivia Palermo (side note - she has good style, but she is a major bi-atch in need of an attitude adjustment or at least that is how it appears on The City). My necklace isn't much of a statement, but I bought it over a year ago and hadn't worn it yet. Also, I was able to work in this fun belt* which I bought a couple of years ago but haven't worn lately.

*I was reminded of my fun, striped belt after seeing this one by Marc by Marc Jacobs in an online lookbook and again on the gorgeous Ashley Greene in Nylon Magazine.

Lastly, I feel confident in my shopping abilities at all sorts of stores - high end boutiques to Goodwill Outlets. However, shopping garage sales leaves me feeling a bit daunted as I haven't done it very much. I am headed out with a friend tomorrow to hit up some sales though - any suggestions? tips?

Love the orange!

Honestly, I usually only shop church/school sales. I find people tend to price unreasonably when it's their own stuff. It's cheaper when people aren't emotionally attached.

If I were headed out tomorrow, I would be going to Zionsville Presbyterian Church, depending on where you live. Church sale in a high income area.

The belt is fantastic!

Question for you guys: What do you consider the end of garage sale season? In FL there's a break during the heat, but is late May too late to hold one? I need to have one to get rid of excess stuff, but it keeps getting put off til "next weekend".

The thing I have found to be true about clothes shopping at garage sales is that the clothes and shoes are pretty much going to only be one size. A quick check of a few pieces (or the person holding the sale) and you can tell whether you should even bother looking.

I tend to shop estate sales more often (lots of old people where I live) and once I hit a jackpot of tons of vintage shoes in my size (nine/ten, not usually found)!

The other thing is that there's not usually a dressing room available (but you should ask anyway) so I even if I find things I tend to stick to knits or brands that I know will fit.

Good luck!

I only hit garage sales for stuff for home or toys and games (for my kid). I'd be interested in reading about your experience though!- the tip about the Zionsville church sale sounds good....I might try and catch that tomorrow.

For garage sales, I would suggest you take a thorough look around, get everything you are interested in, and then propose a price for the lot. You get a much better deal this way than by paying individually.

Enjoy!

Love this outfit! Nothing beats the simplicity and chicness of a crisp white shirt. I also borrowed some inspiration from May's inspiration calendar...yesterday I wore a maxi with a jacket to work (inspired by you!) and today my take of a white shirt and statement necklace. Thanks lady!

nice outfit. we dont have many garage sale here in UK, but we do have regular car and boot sales, generally set in an open field. there you can show your toot off displayed arround your car. There you find a range of sizes according to who is selling. I did one with my sister who only buys top end clothing, she would be the sort of person to visit, as you would be getting top quality at next to nothing prices. Hope you get something good
