Reader Question - Black Tie Gala

ReaderQuestion

I love your blog and have found myself inspired many times by the outfits you put together. I've got a little problem coming up in May. I've been invited to attend a black tie Gala, but since I've gained about 20 pounds in the last year, none of the pretty LBD's I own fit. I don't have much money to spend lot but I need to pass muster since my boss and his wife are the ones inviting me to this event. I'm not married to the idea of yet another LBD, I'm willing to try something different. I know you can help. Thanks so much --Laura

P.S. I'm a size 12, but self conscious of my poochy belly so I prefer nothing *too* tight in that area.

Laura, thanks so much - glad I could help inspire you! As for your black tie gala - it sounds fabulous. I love any excuse to get all glammed up. Normally dresses that fit into the "gala" category run $100+ easily, however, I found three really pretty options available from Newport News.

LBDs can be great for these types of events, but extra interest provided by texture or color is a great way to go. Also, the dresses I choose for you either have a higher waistline that will flow over your "poochy belly" or the last dress will drape beautifully over your trouble spot.

I have loved this dress for a while now and think the black mesh over the neutral fabric is really eye-catching. Add a pair of statement earrings and simple black accessories and you will be show-stopping!

Ever since Cameron Diaz was spotted at the 2007 Met Gala in a raspberry dress and turquoise necklace and earrings I have adored this combo. The blue and pink combo simply pops!!

As an added bonus, don't forget when ordering through online companies check to see if they have partnered with ebates to offer a cash back rebate and they usually list a promo code or two for you to use also! With Newport News you can get 2.5% cash back, plus use the promo code (now through 04/19) 687 for 10% off your order!

Have a marvelous time, Laura!
