Daily Outfit - 04/21/10

dailywear

I feel like I should be headed to a BBQ instead of work today, but I don't have any external meetings so why not rock the maxi dress. This cardi is the perfect topper too because it is a lightweight tee material so it doesn't add too much warmth to the outfit.

04/21/10

Maxi Dress - Target*, $22 (Summer 2009)
Brown Knit Cardi - Walmart, clearance for $7 (Jan. 2010)
Turquoise Necklace - Avon, clearance for $15 (2007)
Snakeskin Belt - NY & Co, $10? (2008)
Wedge Sandals - Target, $25 (April 2010)

*Speaking of Target, one of my co-workers mentioned that her local Target store did away with Plus Sizes and was told that those sizes weren't Target's "focus". While I seldom buy plus sizes at Target since I can wear items from their Misses Sections I was really surprised to hear this. They just recently introduced the "Pure Energy" line for Plus Sizes. Now I am wondering if it is just at that store or Target on a whole. Has anyone else heard about this?

It looks to me like Target has pulled an Old Navy and moved all their plus sizes online.

I live in MN and all of the Targets here still carry plus sizes, however the sizing has changed to vanity sizes (1,2,3,4). I know that select stores are also have a junior plus section too. In fact I am wearing a dress that I bought in the plus section on Sunday.

The Target stores in my area have a more limited selection of larger sizes than they have in the past. I'm sort of borderline - sometimes I can wear the larger misses sizes, sometimes I need the smaller plus sizes.

I'm not crazy about the vanity sizing, mainly because it seems like things don't fit properly. That might just be me.

I do have to try on everything in Target because sometimes a jean or shirt will fit perfectly, and when I buy the exact same thing again, it does not fit right (and it's definitely not a weight gain or loss, it's a cut issue.) I have the same problem at Old Navy.

That said, the clearance racks are still awesome, and definitely worth digging through.

Lurve the python belt with the print on the dress! I work in a very casual environment, and have only recently let go of my super-conservative habits.

The targets around me have drastically reduced there plus-size offerings. In fact, one of them is down to one rack, plus 2 hooks on the wall behind it.

It definitely looks as though they are trying to phase out plus-size. Probably to make it online-only like Old Navy. :(

my local target definitely still has some plus-sized options, though i admit the section is very limited (and placed right next to the maternity section, which i think is just plain MEAN).
after having read other posters' mention Old Navy, my initial reaction was "well MY old navy still sells plus sizes!" but then it dawned on me that i havent actually been IN my old navy for a while.
so maybe i need to check that out for myself...

Targets in NY still carry (very limited amounts of)plus-size clothing though I was in Colorado last week, and they had nothing. It was disappointing...Grr..

I love your maxi dress! It's made from my favorite color palette. I wear maxi dresses a lot in warmer months because they're so feminine and flattering.

This color palette is lovely on you and I love the chunky turquoise necklace!

Targets near me in Chicago suburbs do not sell plus sizes. They go up to a large, sometimes extra large. I wear an 18 and that size is too small for me.

Hm I guess technically you could say they sell up to a 16 and I guess that is plus but it doesn't see, like it to me!

You look gorgeous in that maxi! The target here in MO has definitely pared down there plus size collection. It hardly has it's own section anymore.

I remember the first time I saw the new sizing at Target. I was walking around the plus size section and saw another full figured woman with the same puzzled look I knew was on my face. I said "Can you believe I wear a 4 now?" She chuckled, replying "No kidding. I know what size I am. I don't need their pity sizing chart". We had a good laugh. I still think the new sizing is odd. Why is it better to rename sizes? Is it supposed to make me feel better? Weird.

Shoot, our Target has an amazing plus-size section. I always see things in it that I WISH they had in *my* size.

I love those shoes!!

Target here in Columbus seems to still have a pretty decent plus-size section. But then again, it IS only a few racks. I guess I was just impressed that they had it at all.

By the way, I LOVE your dress! I wish I could pull off a maxi dress, but sadly I just don't think it's going to happen. You look great!

My Target used to have about four racks, while my aunt's in a larger area had about seven, with tons of nicer stuff. Mine is down to one rack of tee shirts and yoga pants and a couple of tops on the wall, and it is right beside the maternity section, as if to say "ok, chubbies shop together."

Love love love the maxi dress!

I've been in and out of different Targets in the past few days now (hunting for the CV shoeline and coming up empty). But, here in Jacksonville FL, they still have plus sizes. It's very much like other posters have said though, the section is 2 maybe 3 racks with a spot on the wall and right next to the maternity section.

I'm also with the one who said to always try everything on at Target, so true (and Old Navy). I've tried on two exact pairs of pants before (at Target) and one will fit and the other was at least an inch bigger in the waist.

The maxi and entire outfit is beautiful on you, love the necklace!

Thanks for all the Target Plus Size Section Feedback, ladies! Looks like their offerings are varying slightly around the US right now. I decided to go ahead and send Customer Service an email inquiry yesterday. Here is what they sent me:

I'm sorry to hear your friend's disappointed with the current availability of plus-size clothing at our Nora Plaza Target store.

Your comments are important because they help us learn more about what you're looking for at Target. We've partnered with many different designers so we can bring you the latest styles. To help us serve you better in this area, I've shared your comments with our buyers for further review with our design teams.

For Target.com product availability, please continue to check online as merchandise offerings are updated daily or contact Target.com Guest Services by calling (800) 591-3869.

We appreciate the time you've taken to share your thoughts and feelings with us.

Sincerely,

Alex

Oh and about the "new" plus sizes 1,2,3 & 4 - lame! I know what size I wear you don't need to tell me I wear some ridiculously small number! :-)

WOW, lady, this combo is gorgeous! I am LOVING the aqua necklace with it, too. One of my favorite dresses ever on you :)

I agree it's annoying when a store doesn't carry all sizes (the nearest Banana Republic outlet only carries up to size 10; most of the shoppers that go in there are at least that size - I've complained to them). But if this is a recent marketing decision made by Target, the only way to get the plus sizes back in the store is for the shoppers to speak up to the local customer service desk and/or contact the main management offices. It sounds like Target must not be selling that much in plus sizes, so they're opting to devote more space to the things that do (teeny cheap junior stuff, in my neck of the woods).
