Reader Question - Maxi Dress Toppers

ReaderQuestion

I love your blog, you have helped me with so many fab finds. I just bought the attached maxi dress from NY & Co. It's reg. $60, but I used their mailing list coupon and got it for $35! But I feel like it needs something over it, like a jacket of some kind. Can you help me find some casual and more dressy items that would work over top? I'm border line plus-size, like some plus stuff is too big, and some non-plus stuff is too small--sucks!

Thanks!
Sara

Sara, that is a great dress and way to be a bargain shopper with your coupon! Since you said you are border line plus-size I made sure to shop retailers that offer more "misses" sizing (vs. juniors) and offer a good variety of sizing (like NY & Co and Old Navy).

Below you can see I pulled together a white linen blazer and a slub knit cardigan that can even be belted if you want more of a streamlined silhouette.

You can never go wrong with a classic denim jacket either. Other options include an open-front casual vest or lightweight knit shrug.

Set2

Enjoy your new maxi dress - there is so much you can do with it!!

I have the greatest little belted safari jacket, short sleeved, (light khaki color) from H&M, it works over anything. I bet it would work over this to make it more casual chic :)

Great advice! I just bought a new denim jacket and I plan to get a lot of wear out of it this spring...

Thanks for the maxi dress cover up ideas. It made me unpack them from my summer box so I can start wearing them now!

I busted out my maxi for the first time this season just this past weekend and it was hysterical.....half the other ladies in Starbucks that morning were wearing them too!

I just wanted to add that one of the girls I saw out on Sunday was wearing her black maxi with a denim jacket, sleeves rolled up once or twice, and a lightweight, grey scarf with some minimal gladiator type sandals. The look was really really perfect and made me realize I need a denim jacket for my maxi and for the spring.

These are some really good suggestions for different ways to wear maxi dresses. Thank you for sharing!
