Reader Question - White Tights

ReaderQuestion

First of all, I love your blog! It's very inspirational and I also like that we have the same body shape and style (which I mentioned in a comment earlier). Anyway, onto my question: What to wear with white tights? I've got a pair of white / off-white tights, and I've seen other people wearing them (on flickr) but when I put them on it looks like I'm wearing a five-year olds tights! And my legs seem so chunky too... Are white tights not for curvier women? Should I forget about them? Or is there a way of wearing them, without looking like a child? I'm out of inspiration for this one!I hope you can help me.
Many thanks in advance,

Sara, thanks so much! Glad you are digging the blog and can relate to dressing a similar body shape.

As for the white tights, I'm not going to lie - I'm not a fan! I find since I'm plus size and tend to carry the majority of my weight in my lower half white tights don't do me any favors. Now, that is not to say that they can't be worn. Just remember, with white tights . . .

Now, if you are Gwen Stefani or a Gossip Girl Cast Member all that focus on your legs isn't an issue.

However, here in the real world it can be a little tricky. I think white tights on their own can look very youthful in addition to making your stems seem chunkier than they are. There are still a couple of ways to incorporate white tights though.

First off, try layering a pair of textured tights over a pair of white ones. It will give a fun effect and tone down the "whiteness".

Also, try them with a pair of dark colored knee-high boots. This will keep your calves and ankles looking slender and the overall look from being too youthful.

Hope this helps a little, Sara. In the end, if you like your white tights, by all means WEAR THEM!! As you can see from Kasmira's recent "White Tights" Poll, opinions are all over the board on this issue. My opinion is simply one of millions!

Thank you Kimberly for answering my reader question! It seems I was right, white tights can make you look chunkier if you're not slim, or Gwen Stefani (which sadly, I'm not). And I'm not sure I want all the focus on my legs...But thanks for the tip about layering them under a pair of textured tights, I will definitely try that! I'd never thought of wearing them with knee-high boots, to cover them up a bit, and I shall try that too.

Thank you so much for answering my question, and thank you also for a great blog!

Awesome tips, lady! I'm not a huge fan of white tights either, but these are some great workarounds.

hahaaha! I love the "To really pull off white tights, you pretty much need to be Gwen Stefani or Gossip Girl" Love it! I completely agree. I've got some pretty shapely legs, and I would be doing them NO favors by cladding them in white tights. plus, they remind me of Easter Sunday when I'd wear them with white patent maryjanes. ohhh yeah.

Guys don't seem to like them. I've heard them call them "nurse's stockings."

Great post. Even being a somewhat petite person, I have a hard time with white tights. They're cute on other people, just a little much for me. I much prefer dark neutrals or pretty brights!
