Charlotte
Ahh, Charlotte, the search for the elusive comfy and cute shoes. I have found that comfortable shoes often go hand and hand with being more on the expensive side. Let's face it, in order for a shoe to be comfy it needs to be made of a breathable leather, have extra cushion in it and be made of nicer materials then what you can probably find at Payless. Now that's not to say that discount stores and retailers targeting the frugal shopper aren't comfy, but often times you get what you pay for.
I have some really comfy shoes by Aerosoles, Born, Tsubos, Clarks and Cole Haan. Those shoes typically are at approaching if not passing the $100 mark when not sale. But here is the thing, you don't need to pay full price!!
Sometimes you can catch a pair of Aerosoles or Cole Haans at TJ Maxx (I got a pair of $180+ Cole Haans for $30 at TJ Maxx last month) and various department stores and shoe retailers will offer sales. However, I have found the best deals are to be had on-line. 6pm.com offers crazy good deals on these "comfy" brands (I scored a pair of Tsubos that were normally $95 for $26 in Jan.). Also, Gotham City is a great retailer for quality brands of shoes. My aunt bought a pair of brand new Stuart Weitzmans that were originally $250-ish for $70!
Here are some super cute styles that I pulled from 6pm.com that are quality brands known for comfort in addition to being super stylish. Click through the picture for links.

You might also want to check out www.clarks.com. It's an international company. I wear their shoes & boots to work all the time (teacher/counsellor) in England and love them!

You know I've been looking for cute/comfy shoes too, and it's definitely not always an easy thing to find. In my opinion, Cole Haan is easily worth the money. Great post..
May I also suggest Naturalizers. They've gotten way cuter than they used to be, and they're one of the few brands that carries a range of styles in both the extra-narrow and extra-wide widths. They really have become one of my go-to brands, and they're quite affordable, too.

Sofft is another comfortable, stylish brand. They're not cheap, but 6pm.com and Marshalls both sell them. Kenneth Cole also has a comfortable line called Gentle Souls.
I also like Aerosoles. I bought these (Hap Hazard) in grey suede over the holidays and they are fantastic - 2 inch wedge, but comfortable especially because of the rubber bottom. They are now just $25-29!

I've had a lot of luck with Aerosoles and Clark's too, and if you're patient you can usually find cute ones that don't look too orthopedic (i.e., thick rubber soles). I have bought cute Aerosoles heels and boots at reasonable prices (less than $50) from their outlet stores and DSW.
BTW, Kimberly, I just "found" your blog, and I think it's informative and fun. Can't wait to read more!
I'm actually going to get a pair of the Clarks Book Pump - it's just a plain black round toe just a bit more than flat shoe. I don't know why it's called a pump, the heel is very, very low but it's perfect for me. I don't do well with shoes that are just dead flat.
Every pair of Clarks I've ever owned have been more than worth the money, and this pair in particular is $49.99 retail. I have learned I cannot do the Payless shoe anymore. It kills my feet and I wind up buying three pair of cheap shoes when I might as well go ahead and spend a bit more on a good pair that will last.
Wow, thanks for posting this. I always have a difficult time finding shoes that are comfy & don't make me look like a 90-year-old! I'll be checking the links & I look forward to future postings. :)
Fluevog shoes are really comfortable, and trendy/retro. They aren't especially cheap, but if you watch their clearance/sales you can get some great deals. I'm a teacher, and I wear Fluevogs most days. www.fluevog.com
I love TJ Maxx for comfy and cute shoes..among many other things of course lol
