Daily Outfit - 02/28/09

I went out this morning to run some errands while Dave went to work for a while. Unfortunately, cold temps and strong winds are back in our forecast. However, I still have spring fever so I tried to keep it light and fun. Also, I received this striped shirt and scarf in the mail within a couple of days of each other this week, so of course I had to wear them!

Collage

Red/White Striped L/S Tee - Walmart Online, clearance for $3 (Feb. 2009)
Red Cardigan - Lane Bryant, clearance for $5 (May 2008)
Jeans - Avenue, on sale for $18 (Nov. 2008)
Scarf - Gift from the Fabulous Boutique Girl (It's Vila brand like so many of the awesome pieces that she wears! - Thanks again!) (Feb. 2009)
Red Shoes - Privos/6pm.com, $32 (Aug. 2008)
Necklaces - 1837 Bar gift from Mom from Tiffany's (Feb. 2003) & Venetian from Dave from Tiffany's (December 2006)
Reusable Bag - Target, $1 (ha! It went so well with my outfit I just had to show it! Also, inside of it was 12 packages that I mailed out this morning.)

LotsoMail
CDs for the CD Swap and some gifties for friends!

Also, here is close-up of my new and improved DIY Jeweled Flats. They are so shiny and pretty if I do say so myself! :-)

~~Update~~
When I wear a scarf as a belt -
If it is a long rectangle shape I tie it in a square knot and let the ends hang loose, like here.

If it is a large square (like today), I fold it in half diagonally, fold into a long strip, tie it in a square knot and tuck the ends (sorry for the poor photo quality, but I snapped some quick pics in the mirror with my blackberry to answer Andrea's question).

Daily Outfit - 02/27/09

I ended up being gone from home for 14 hours yesterday and normally that would be okay, but all I wanted to do when I got home was crawl in bed (stupid cold!). Which I did - at 9:15 pm! I didn't fall asleep right away, but after taking cold medicine I was no good! So that left me pulling together an outfit this morning. Since it is Friday, why not make it simple! I did manage to toss on a new necklace that I just got yesterday though!

Black Tee - Target (?), $8
Satin Shirt - Macy's (Feb. 2009), clearance for $7
Brown Pants - LB Outlet (Feb. 2008), on sale for $20
Black Belt - NY & Co (Fall 2008), on sale for $14
Necklace - Mandee.com (Feb. 2009), w/ promo code for $6.40
Black Boots - Guess/TJ Maxx (Feb. 2008), clearance for $20

Added bonus, I can just toss jeans on with this when I get home since we are going out for a casual dinner with Dave's cousin (who I use to work with and introduced us) and her new boyfriend.

Random Update: I am enjoying my new DIY Jeweled Flats so much! I have worn them a handful of times, received compliments and as an added bonus no "jewels" have fallen off (ha! ha!). The black flats I embellished were pretty beat up already, so I decided to upgrade my black flats. Earlier in the week I picked up a pair of black patent flats at Payless (BOGO ends this weekend, btw) and moved the embellishment to them (after cutting off the bows). Oh my gosh, I love them!

Have a great weekend, all! I am working on a couple of posts about Work Wardrobe Essentials on a Budget and Pattern Mixing so be sure to check back!

Daily Outfit - 02/26/09

I've been kind of a Debbie Downer this week I realized. Not sure why besides the fact that I don't feel that well. I need to get over it though ~ no one wants to read a whoa is me blog!

~ So, its Thursday! Yay!
~ We are having our monthly company luncheon today (where I will get a gift card to a restaurant since my b-day was earlier this month) complete with Salad and Potato Bar from McAlister's.
~ After work my department is going out for team building aka drinks!
~ And I decided to sport some fun new accessories today.
(now that's better!)

Black L/S Tee - Target (?), $10
Black Cardi - NY & Co (Oct. 2008), on sale for $14
Black Skirt - Old Navy (Jan. 2009), major clearance + promo code for $4.50
Black Tights - Hue/Macy's (Feb. 2009), $10

Scarf - For Love 21* (Feb. 2009), $8
Belt of Awesomeness - vintage/thrifted at Value World (Feb. 2009), $3
Purple Heels - Nine West/Endless.com (Oct. 2008), sale + promo code for $55

* Yesterday at lunch one of my co-workers introduced me to the wonderful world of the new(er) For Love 21 Store at the mall downtown. It is a store of just Forever 21 accessories - shoes, purses, necklace, scarves, etc. It was awesome! I went with the intention of buying just a couple of things and 10 items later I was on my way out the door. However, at their good prices it didn't do much damage!

As for my Kmart Booties yesterday - they are true to size if you just wear tights/thin socks with them. You might want to go up a half size if want a bit of extra room. Here is the link to them if you want a pair (they are online only and not in stores). I would have never known that Kmart had such cute stuff if it weren't for reading blogs (The Cheap Chica's Blog to be exact). See, it does pay to read blogs, oops, I guess it costs actually, but I have cute stuff!

Lucky Shopping Manual - Tops

Did you think I forgot about this little feature? Well, I didn't ~ I just took a little break from it. Below is the third installment from The Lucky Shopping Manual - Building and Improving Your Wardrobe Piece by Piece.

I am in slight disagreement with Lucky on this installment showcasing tops though. Per Lucky, you only need 6 Work Tops, 4 Weekend Tops and 3 Fun Tops and "more" Fun Tops as needed. Personally, I don't think this is enough, but then again I ♥ clothes!

Daily Outfit - 02/25/09

Bleh ~ that pretty much sums up my thoughts about today. As yesterday wore on my throat became increasingly more scratchy feeling and I keep coughing. When I got home I wanted to do nothing more than go to bed. I held off to about 10 pm, but didn't spend anytime thinking ahead to today's outfit. So, I grabbed this combo this morning. Here is hoping that I can ward off the cold that is trying to take residence in my body!

Splurge vs. Steal - Snakeskin Platforms

The Dior Extreme Sandal hit the scene hot and heavy last summer thanks to it being Carrie's favorite pair of heels in Sex and the City: The Movie last May. It is still a shoe in much demand with newer colors still being offered by Bergdorf Goodman. However, with its $780 price tag it is out of the reach of many.

With that, a slew of knock-offs have hit the scene over the past several months. Even with those there are many splurge vs. steal options available, including these great snakeskin ones!

I actually just ordered a pair of these from Mandee yesterday in purple. I am envisioning them with a deep gray charmeuse top, purple belt, black skirt, black tights, and black motorcycle jacket to wear out in Chicago in a couple of weeks! :-)

Daily Outfit - 02/24/09

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Wish I was still in St. Louis or down in New Orleans or even back in bed! I'm just not feeling it today ~ not in it to win it! Better get over it though because I have a meeting in 20 minutes and need to kick butt through some stuff today!

Thanks again to all of my readers and the kind comments you leave. It continues to amaze me how my readership grows daily! I am constantly trying to think of items/ideas to post about to make this more than the typical "daily outfit" blog (not that those aren't great because I do love them!), so if you have any ideas or questions feel free to comment or send me an email.

Reader Question - Add Some Color

Oh, and I have a Question that I really need your help with. I LOVE color, and I feel really comfortable using it in my everyday looks. However, my new job requires I wear mostly black with hints of white, but no color (except for jewelry). Do you have any good ideas on how to make chic outfits using all black and white? (I can wear skirts, dresses, leggings, pants, and capris).

~Nikki

Oh, Nikki, I feel your pain! I worked retail back in college and post-college days as a second job, and it was always so hard to stick to the dress code. Luckily, all black or black and white can be very chic and works as a canvas for lots of fun accessories (which I know you have from the variety you have shown on your blog).

However, here are a few more to add some pizazz!

Add color and a bit of boho vibe with
Feather Earrings - Forever 21, $2.80

Daily Outfit - 02/20/09

I planned on giving my outfit for today absolutely no thought. It has been a hell of a week, and I am only working for 4 hours (one of which is before anyone even shows up) today. However, then I saw the picture below in the latest Bazaar magazine that I was flipping through last evening while waiting for Dave (who was dropping his car off at the dealership - damn headlight went out the day before we were set to head out of town in it). Poof - inspiration made up of simple, easy pieces to toss on. If it had been a normal day I might have belted it , tossed on another necklace or something, but easy is the word of the day.

I loved Fashion Therapist's dress with attached vest yesterday. While I don't have one of those, I improvised and added a vest over a dress. Originally, I just planned to wear the vest with only the black dress, but that seemed a bit boring ~ I wanted to add a scarf or something. Then I remembered this shirt with similar colors and a fun neck tie. Poof, layer it up and here we are. Also, I decided to pull out some heels that haven't seen the light of day since June!

Purse Madness - I Was Tagged!

Andrea over at My Chihuahua Bites tagged me yesterday with a Purse MeMe. Here are the rules:

1/ Post a picture of whatever bag you are carrying today. Don't change bags. No cheating!
2/ Tell us how much it cost. This is a no-judgement zone. Also, how did you obtain it?
3/ Tag some fellow bloggers.

So, here we go!

I bought this bag for myself for a 30th Birthday present. I have had my eye on it for a while, but turning 30 seemed like a good excuse to indulge a bit and spend $700 on a purse*.

Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM

Purse
You can cinch the sides, or

Purse2
or carry it with the sides loose and more roomy.

Looking inside the purse:
Purse_withstuff

All the stuff I carry on a normal day:
Purse_Stuff

Summary of what all this stuff:

Ann Taylor Loft Clutch that I keep lipglosses, powder and other necessities in, Hand Lotion, Fun Tissues in a Carrying Case, Vera Bradley Case (with headphones, camera cord, iPod USB cord, extra camera battery inside), random dollar bills and change, brown metallic wallet, Pink Juicy Couture Sunglass Case with Sunglasses inside, 2 USB Drives, Keys, Stride Gum, old school iPod Mini, iPod Touch, Blackberry Pearl with Glam USB Drive hanging off of it, couple of pens, Wendy Costa Case that I keep my camera in, Coach Umbrella, Coach Agenda

I have a huge assortment of wallets, cosmetic bags, etc. that I switch out often, but here is today's mix.

As for tagging others, I say if you want to share do it!

*before you even think about leaving an annonymous comment telling me how stupid it is to buy a $700 purse with someone else's initials all over it - I know. However, I am a label whore when it comes to purses and love the classic look of LV purses. I am happy to say I am the proud owner of three of them.

P.S. I know when you view this post on the blog it cuts off the pictures on the right side, however, when viewed in Google Reader it shows the whole thing, so I opted to include larger pictures.

Daily Outfit - 02/17/09

I have had a weird attraction to faux fur for a while now, but have never let myself indulge. That is until I spotted this jacket on super-duper clearance while out shopping this past weekend. It was such a good price that I just couldn't help myself.

Also, since I so enjoyed mixing purple and black with leopard last week I decided to give it another go this week.

021709

Leopard Jacket - Dots (Feb. 2009), on clearance + coupon for $10

Purple/Black Broach - Ann Taylor Loft (Jan. 2009), on clearance + coupon for $4
Purple Suede Belt - Kohl's (Feb. 2009)Black Tights - ?
Black Boots - LB Outlet (Sept. 2008), on sale for $43

As soon as I got home last night I grabbed everything for this outfit and hung it on my "to wear" rack for today, so I wouldn't have to think about it later in the night or this morning. Then while watching some TV after dinner I flipped through my Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style book. What do you know ~ they showed not one, but two leopard tops with purple skirts in their "bombshell" section. This combo must have been subliminally etched in my brain!

Splurge vs. Steal - South-of-France Chic

Over the weekend I went through the March 2009 issue of Marie Claire. Their Splurge vs. Steal page showcasing "South-of-France Chic" caught my eye with its fun pattern mixing and bright spring colors. Then I thought to myself, I think I have everything I need for this look already in my closet. How is that for creating a "steal" look and shopping my closet all at the same time?!

Marie Claire:

"Steal" Prices Ranging from: $267 - $1,147

Confessions of a Shopaholic & My Own Confessions

I mentioned yesterday that Dave took me to see Confessions of a Shopaholic and a lot of you have asked my thoughts on the movie. Here they are:

It was exactly what I thought it would be- nothing earth shattering, nothing that would make me ponder my existence on this planet, nothing that would make me tear up or exuberant - just a simple movie about a ditzy chick that got herself into credit card trouble with a little romance kicked in for flavor.

I read the book back in 2001 when it was first released, and I read a couple of the other Shopaholic Books that followed. It was just chick fluff that was fun to read. I don't remember enough of the book to say if the movie was true to the book or not.

However, I can say, that I loved seeing the fashion!!! That was worth the cost of admission right there! Rebecca Bloomwood's use of color was amazing and so fun to see. Also, as I previously posted, I love all of the belts she wore throughout the movie. Lastly, I will be turning my fur stole into an amazing necklace similar to the one Alette Naylor wore in the movie (sorry, gals, I can't find a picture, but if you saw the movie you know what I am talking about!).

Favorite Quote by Dave during the movie, "Did she skin Fozzie Bear for that jacket?" upon seeing this (silly boy!):

Now for my own shopping confessions:

I use to say I can't leave the house without spending money. I think I need to rephrase that to I can't leave an empty room with no TV, phone or internet without spending money! I ran a few errands and bought a few clothing items while out and about this weekend, but nothing too major.

However, I also got sucked into QVC's "Live From Fashion Week" Coverage on Saturday morning and next thing you know I had ordered these two things - I have to post them on my other blog because they aren't "Fab Finds Under $50" :-(, but they are so cute they are worth it!

Also, yesterday, I ordered these items on major clearance at HSN (ebates was offering a double rebate of 6% on all HSN purchases through today!). HSN HSN
HSN - by dddgirl79 on Polyvore.com

Butterfly Belt - $9 (I love the huge buckle - yeah, I was still on the Rebecca Bloomwood high of big belts!)
Leather & Ribbon Belt - $5
Ponte Pleated Skirt - $9

Daily Outfit - 02/16/09

Well, it is pretty apparent based on traffic this morning that I am one of 10 ten people working today. Okay, it isn't that bad, but man, I miss working for an employer that actually had some decent paid holidays! All of my friends have 3-day weekends!

On to happy thoughts ~ I have a mad crush on all things floral right now. So, when I spied this dress on Saturday I made a beeline for it and snatched it up.

This dress is way thin - a sheer layer over a thin built in slip thing that ends about an inch below where my cardi does leaving it way inappropriate on me! So, I solved that by layering it over a lightweight black knit dress.

021609

Green Turtleneck - Meijer (Nov. 2008), on sale for $4
Floral Dress - Dots (Feb. 2009), with coupon for $19
Black Knit Dress - Avon (Spring 2006), $20
Black Ruffle Front Cardi - Avenue (Nov. 2006), clearance for $15
Black Belt - NY & Co (Fall 2008), on sale for $14
Black Tights - Old Navy (??)
Black Boots - Target (Fall 2006), $37
Necklace (Detail Below) - HSN (Fall 2008) - This necklace came with another similar necklace that has stars on it - supposedly it is based on a set of "Mom/Daughter" necklaces that Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson have. I bought the set for my mom for Christmas and then she picked the one she liked best and I kept the other - don't you love that?! A Christmas present for Mom that I got to keep part of - ha!

Daily Outfit - 02/15/09

Two outfit postings in one weekend - this never happens!

Usually Sundays are pretty lazy days around our place, but as part of my Valentine's Day present Dave offered to take me to see Confessions of a Shopaholic today. Now, normally, I more than happily leave Dave at home for chick flicks and go with my girls and/or mom instead, but since he offered I took him up on it! Needless to say, I doubt he offers again anytime soon! :-)
