Reader Question - Wide Calf Boots

ReaderQuestion

I've got a tough question for you. I have been dreaming of a pair of black or brown boots for this winter. Preferrably ones with a chunky heel and that can be worn with jeans, tights and dresses, tights and long shirts (I'm preggo, so I can do that)! Here's the only catch, I have large calves that stem from being a child gymnast. Do you have any advice or know where boots can be ordered?

Thanks for your time,
Alexandra

Alexandra, wide calf boots can seem near impossible to find, but there are some options available. Plus Size Clothing Retailers are usually good places to check out and also boots made of a faux, stretchy suede are a good options also (I so miss the pairs that Isaac Mizrahi use to do for Target!).

It's especially tough to find pairs that fall under the $50 mark, but I gathered up some of the most reasonably priced pairs I could find. Hopefully you will find a pair that suits you.

LOVE that 1st boot- and good boots are worth the investment IMO!!! love your picks, I hope she finds something!

I thought I had wide calves, since shopping for boots two years ago was IMPOSSIBLE. Now though everything i have tried fits, so I think retailers have widened the calves a bit...

I have larger calves then the average girl thanks to running and I found that this year's Target boots ($39) fit nicely even with jeans tucked in!

Love the Button Trim's-- SO CUTE!

Thanks for this post. Boots with wide calves can be really hard to find.

Also wanted to put a plug in for taking your boots to a cobbler - they can stretch them! My calves are also big, and I got the most gorgeous Frye boots at quite a steal. Alas, they don't fit. So I took them to a family owned shoe repair place, where apparently they get requests to stretch boots all the time! They can also add an elastic panel to increase the width.

I want to give a massive shout-out to duoboots.com. Not only are they wide widths, you can CHOOSE your width up to 50cm. They certainly are not under $50, but definitely fab. I give them a ringing endorsement.
