I discovered your blog a month or so and am hooked. I love the looks you put together and the way you play with color and texture. Thank you!
I'm hoping you can help me with a shopping challenge. I'm going to the beach in a couple of weeks and really want a few light sundresses I can throw on to walk on the beach that could also be dressed up a bit for dinner. I've lost some weight and am down to a size 6 but am a larger chested and have been having trouble finding sundresses in my size that a) have a bust area with enough room/fabric to accommodate my bust- I'm not opposed to a little cleavage but I don't want it all out there if you know what I mean, and b) with a strap configuration that allows me to wear a supportive bra.
I'm open to maxi dresses but I think I'd get more mileage out of lengths just above the knee.
Any suggestions for me?
Thank you for doing what you do!
Katie
Katie, glad you are enjoying Fab Finds Under $50. Luckily, it seems since the average bra size had increased in the recent past to a 36C from a 34B clothing designers have taken that into account and fun summer dresses that provide coverage are aplenty. Here are just a few that I came across:
Left to Right:
Embroidered Voile Dress - Old Navy, on sale for $12.99
Embroidered Dress with Tassel Sleeve - Ann Taylor Loft, on sale for $39.99
Cross-Front Ruffle Dress - Old Navy, $29.50
Left to Right:
Ruffled Jersey Dresses - Old Navy, on sale for $19.99
Squareneck Floral Dress - Ann Taylor Loft, on sale for $39.99
Embroidered Woven Dress - Forever 21, $22.80
Also, if you find a dress that you like that has super skinny straps, don't forget that you can layer a wider strap tank or tee under the dress. It's a great way to provide more coverage for a supportive bra and add more detail to the outfit with color, texture or detailing.
Left to Right:
Maxi Dress - Target, $29.99
Long Layering Tank - Old Navy, clearance for $5
Keyhole Tank - Target, $12.99
As for dressing up these dresses a pair of wedge sandals and some fun jewelry can take these dresses straight from the beach to dinner out. Have fun!

Hi there! I just found your blog through The Budget Babe's blogroll, and I gotta say, I love your style! I've sent your link onto a friend of mine who is plus sized. She'll get alot of great ideas from you!

oh, GOODNESS, i love that turquoise forever 21 embroidered dress! but i gotta say, on the model with NO BOOBS, it's cutting right in the middle rather than having the elastic at the waist where it looks like it ought to be, so i feel like this one wouldn't work for us bustier lasses, alas!

I am curious to others opinions on the bra thing. Do you think like clothing sizes bras have shifted in their sizing? You know what I mean? I got new bras last night and I told myself NO WAY and I a double DD and grabbed a bunch of sizes. Damned if I wasn't a DD!!! Seriously I don't think they are that big. And I don't think its just me thinking that. I believe the sizes have shifted some. (vanity sizing and all that jazz)
Similar to the second comment, I'm not sure if the first 2 dresses will be super flattering on a bustier girl. I'm cursed/blessed with a larger chest myself and if a dress lacks definition in the waist and is designed to flow out from the chest, it tends to make us look shapeless or much larger than we actually are.
My best suggestions are to find something with an empire waist or definition at the actual waist to avoid looking like you're wearing a maternity tent.
P.S. I love the blog, I've been following for ages but I don't think I've commented before.
Jo - Welcome to Fab Finds! Hope your friend enjoys it also!
Thrifty Stylist - F21 just added a ton more "model pics" to its site. When I first pulled this dress for this post it wasn't up and it can be really hard to tell how something will fit based on one pic.
Hillary - Perhaps it is vanity sizing. I just figured the average was up because so many ladies are getting their boobs done!
J - You know me I love my belts and scarves. A flowy dress could always be cinched with one for more waist definition.
I love that Ann Taylor Loft dress, but just had to return it because it was too small through the chest. (size 6, 34D bra)

it's a shame because it looks SO flattering, right? too bad. a really nice find. but good to know- i'm glad they showed it on a model because i totally would have bought it and cut my bubbies right in half ;)
