I wasn't sure how it would be received at work, but the couple of people who noticed really liked it.
My buddy, Hillary, did a couple of different versions too - check them out here.
Speaking of the fabulous Hillary, she shared an idea for an awesome DIY last week involving painting the soles of a pair of shoes. What a great idea! The couple of pairs of shoes that I have with red soles and my Betsey Johnson's with their hot pink/floral soles make me so happy. So, on Saturday while out I stopped by Michael's to get a couple of supplies.
What you will need:
The Acyrlic Pant I bought was sale for 50 cents each and the Glaze was about $2.30. I had everything else.
I used the masking tape to tape off the heel cap and the ball of the foot part of the sole. I decided since the ball of the foot was going to get scratched up anyway to not paint it. That way I don't run the risk of paint transferring from the bottom of my shoes onto the carpet, tile floor, etc.
I painted on about 4 coats just to make sure the color was nice and rich. After that was fully dry I painted on one coat of the glaze. The glaze was definitely a good idea. It is amazing the shine it added and helped finish off the look.
I also painted a pair with purple. This pair has a rubber sole vs. the hard plastic of the pair above. It required about 7-8 coats of paint to get the coverage I wanted. Thanks again for the idea, Hillary, I love the extra "pop" these are going to add to my outfits!

What a fantastic idea! I LOVE it!
Fabulous!! I'm driving up just so we can craft!! :)
Ally, make sure you come for the weekend so we have plenty of time for thrifting too!
Love this, and the nails too! Definitely going to have to make this weekend a crafty one :)
Ooh, what a fun way to spruce up some older pairs of heels I've got lurking about! I might have to give this a try. Thanks for the tip!
Love this idea! Especially the blue-green colour.
the blue soles are so gorgeous. what a great idea.
Way to knock off another designer's signature look... really classy!!
Ummm, Anonymous, didn't intend to "knock off" a designer's look - just wanted to add some fun and unexpectedness to a pair of shoes I already had. I see you found my site through some type of Google Search - hopefully it doesn't lead your negativity back here again!
As for you implying I knocked off Louboutin - I’m not the first. Betsey Johnson has done pink/floral, Alexander McQueen orange, YSL yellow and blue, Paris Hilton pink, Versace yellow, Kmart red, and many others have started to inject this colorful element into their designs. So I think it is safe to say I’m not knocking off anything – just following the trends!
What an awesome DIY project!
That's such a fun idea! Thanks for sharing.
I saw this on Hillary's site a few days ago and decided that I will be doing this to a few of my shoes- especially some I bought for a wedding next month. Thank you for showing the type of paint and glazed you used. And for the knock-off comment.... you aren't trying to pass your shoes off as a diiferent name brand than they are... you are just making the bottom as pretty as the top!
woot. knockoff? Of what. Colored soles are purtty thats all. Its a fun whabam when you cross your legs.
also it KILLS me to hear someone reads my site. REALLY? me? not just my mom and my friends I pressure into it??
awesome idea! I want to try this SOOO bad now!! :) and your mani looks awesome too!! YAY for awesome nails!! :)
the colored sole should be easy enough for me to do...how fun!
and i have to look thru my nail polishes and see if i can do this...loved yours

Cute idea! Love ur blog!
They look fab!
Hillary Rocks and you did an awesome job! I want to copy the look too :-)
That is such an awesome idea! Have they held up well? (I guess since you aren't coloring the part that touches the ground, it wouldn't rub off as easily.)
