Daily Outfit - 07/24/09

dailywear

You don't have to be a long time reader of Fab Finds Under $50 to know that I LOVE my accessories. Today's outfit is a prime example. I see woman everyday that would have just left it with the shirt, cardi and jeans like this:

But not me, I tossed on a belt and scarf as well to add some more color and pattern.

I'm always afraid I'll put on too much, but you make it look so pulled together.

I'm with you, Kim, I love to accessorize! While I do think that you've got it down to a science and you're always coordinated, I think I do a good job, based on the comments I get from people at work. But I know it's not easy for everyone, so I think your blog is an inspiration to lots. ;-)

You look great! I love that belt!

I use accessories sparingly, and usually to serve a purpose. For example, a belt to add waist definition, or a bold necklace to make a low cut top a little more conservative. I think if the clothes are special and unique enough, that's good enough for me.

But, I do love your individual style. It just works for some people to put a lot of "extras" on.

Wow, what a difference. The scarf is SUCH a nice touch!

I love how much better it looks with just a belt and a scarf! You have certainly inspired me over the months to try new things. I voted I love my accessories because I've always worn jewelry, but am recently starting to add belts and scarves a wee bit more. So I'm a mix between love and wish I did more.

Before I started writing my fashion blog, I probably would have left it at basic. But now I'm so much more aware of how an extra bit of icing can make the outfit truly unique & interesting. Such a great point Kimberly! XOXO, MissAmy

seriously... another belt?

Great casual look and I think the belt is perfect with it. Belts totally works with your shape.

Anonymous - why even bother with such a stupid comment?

I just found your blog and love it.
I recently lost quite a bit of weight(have 4 kids) and am bit lost on the style I want. I have never worn belts the way you wear them. I wear them in the regular holding up the pants up. I need to stock up on thin and wide belts, I see.

Thanks for the visual aid - it is something the accessory-challenged people like me need!!! I am definitely the before. Where should I start to build my accessories??

The lack of accessories is definitely my problem. Like today. My outfit is alright and cute enough but boy would it really look good w/a belt or a necklace.

I think accesories are the true cornerstones of a real style. Anybody can buy the clothes that are shown at the store, but you can look great if you add something unique like a belt, scarf, jewelry, etc. I have just recently embraced the "summer scarf" trend. I love them, but somtimes people look at you like you're crazy since it's warm outside. Kim, I think you look great.

MissAmy - I agree with you completely on your comment. Before I started my fashion blog, I left things a lot simpler. Now that I'm more aware of how I look and checking out/being inspired by other women's amazing looks, it's all about accessorizing... with scarves, belts, jewelry, etc. Kim, when I first saw this post in my reader, I only saw the first image and I immediately thought, what's up with her outfit today? because you usually do so much to it... and then I read on. I love this idea for a post! :-) Krissie

I can't pull off accessories as well as you can, but I always add something to the outfit. Sometimes it's a simple silver necklace and sometimes its a bunch of bangles, scarves and long necklaces. Just depends on my outfit and how fiesty I'm feeling for the day!

This is a perfect example of how accessories make the outfit. It almost looks like you have on something completely different in the second shot.

great scarf!!!

i love accessories and own so many...but usually i go low key
the 1st pic would probably have been something i do..(well i might have added a long necklace)..but then again i'm afraid of belts eeek lol

I'm guilty of being that person leaves the house with just jeans, cardi, shirt/tank. My problem, I guess, is two fold. One, I live in FL where it is very hot and humid outside and then frigid as a freezer inside usually. And two, I have a 4 year old who I have to constantly chase around or buckle in and out of a car seat. I would love to accessorize more but I'm definitely having trouble working out how to pull it off. You always look pulled together and polished and I really like how you showed before and after, it really helps!

Great example of how taking a few accessories make a casual outfit look fantabulous!

This is interesting. Although its often hard to see in my photos, my clothes have plenty of "dressmaker details". A ruffle or texture woven in the fabric, fabric flowers attached to the shirt or interesting buttons, etc. Often I think that more that one accessory would be gilding the lily. So, I think I split the difference.

The other thing, is that sometimes, I feel too many pieces become fussy, and then the outfit speaks for you instead of just being part of an overall professional appearance.

So, I guess I am simple, but like a few extra touches.

Accessories really do have the power to bring an outfit from "okay" to "fab", like you've done here. However, there can be too much of a good thing. I like simplicity in accessories, where one item is the statement piece, and the others simply support it. If the outfit has an attention getting element, like a printed blouse, them I make the accessories even simpler.

ok this is hilarious. I agree with accessories. Dave constantly is telling me to take something off as its just "one too many" and I think but I was considering MORE. It does make an outfit. I wore a white t and blazer yesterday but I wore the big pearl necklace from ally with 6 pearl bracelets and instantly I was "dressed up"

After reading the posts again, I thought of something else. I am only 5'2, and most of my height is legs. I am shirt torsoed and short waisted, so If were to wear a scarf and belt as shown even above, there would barely be a handsbreadth between the two...you'd barely see the shirt...that may be a reason why less is more for me. Less really is more! :-)

Your accessorizing it part of what makes your style so memorable. :)

I used to be much shyer about wearing multiple accessories, but now I have a lot of fun with them. (The exception is when I wear a dress or something that already seems pretty "busy" and demands a more uncluttered look.)

I love my accessories...can't you tell..lol..Anyway a hint to accessories is to accessorize your outfit and then remove one piece...and you will have accessorized in style !
Tip 2 Never pay for expensive trendy pieces...they are usually here today and gone tomorrow...spend if you must on classic pieces.
