Thanks for this post and though I lurk all the time thanks for the hard work you put into this blog!!
Thank you, Tiffany
Tiffany -
Thanks for the question. I personally think a belt can be a plus size, curvy girls best friend. It sounds like we are pretty similar in shape and you know how much I love my belts!!
For the first part of your question, when you say you have a pudge, I am assuming you mean below your belly button (that's wear my pudge is). If you pair a wide belt at your waist with a shirt or dress whose fabric doesn't cling this shouldn't be a problem at all and actually help camouflage the "pudge". Go to a store and take some belts in the dressing room along with some different shirts/dresses in various materials - play around to figure out what combinations work. It doesn't mean you have to buy all new stuff, but you can apply the knowledge to what you have in your closet already and really pinpoint in on what you may need to buy to make this look work for you. In the end it is all about what you feel comfortable in.
Now for the question about feeling the need to wear two belts - one to hold up your pants and one as a fashionable accessory. I totally hear ya on this one, and it appears we aren't the only ones. Last summer I was introduced to the wonderful world of Invisibelts!! Every time you see me wearing jeans (like here and here and oh yeah, here too) I am wearing an Invisibelt looped through my jeans. This slimline belt does away with the lumps and bumps that a normal belt gives leaving you open to add to a belt on top of shirt! Just check out these before (with a normal belt) and after pictures (with the Invisibelt):
I have had my Invisibelt for almost a year and while it only gets worn 1-2 days a week it has held up very well. Invisibelts come in two sizes - one for misses and one for plus and two colors - clear and black. You can order them directly from Invisibelt (one for $19.95 or set for $37.95 + shipping) or for more bang for your buck through QVC (item #A85836 and you get a set of Black & Clear for $25.46 + $5.22 shipping).
Also, don't forget if ordering from QVC to go through your Ebates account for an additional 3% rebate!!
If you want to see more about Invisibelts here is a pretty good video too.
Ladies, do any of you have an Invisibelt? Thoughts? Any other ideas for tackling this lumpy, bumpy problem?

I bought an Invisibelt after I saw you talking about it last year and I LOVE it! Seriously - it's one of the greatest inventions ever. It has really helped me put together some new outfits that I never would have before. I recommend everyone gets one.
I have one trick that I've done for a couple years that works almost as well as the Invisibelt sounds like it does: I buy belts with a relatively flat buckle and instead of having the buckle positioned directly in front of me, I put it off to the side right in front of my hip. It doesn't get in the way and any "buckle bulge" is much less visible. I wear belts over shirts and dresses all the time, along with an off-center one to hold up my pants, and it always works and isn't noticeable.
I have been s0o out of the blogosphere these past few weeks with a trip and finals..I just caught up on all my reading today and I have to say several things:
-You're so bad for my wallet. You make me want to shop every day. On the positive though, your pics have really helped me consider my own style and look into new patterns, colors, layers, etc.
-I love the inspiration calendar! I'm going to copy some of it down and can't wait for June.
-I still need to get my bum to Goodwill lol.

Oh, then the next question, fashion maven, is this:
For us curvy girls, have you found any fabulous jeans that accomodate our curves, have minimal fall-down potential WITHOUT coming up to our bras? I have tried the NYD Jeans and NO THANK YOU. I'd like to find a jean that sits at the waist without falling down and without giving me MTOD (muffin top of doom). Also, 100% cotton would be nice, it seems like "stretch" jeans just mean "stretch out of shape by the end of the day and make you look sloppy" jeans.
ALSO
I think you should do a post about what you wear when you are staying home for the day.
I'm so buying one of these! I've always been annoyed by the bulge that most belt buckles create.
How fortuitous! I also need to wear a belt to keep my pants in their rightful place so I have stayed away from the belt looks I see so many people embracing. Even if I don't start wearing a decorative belt over my shirt, this would still help keep me looking buckle bulge free!
I too slide my belt over the side under one of y belt loops- that helps but it's still kind of bulky.
I'm going to have to give this a try- I like knowing my pants will stay in place but hate having that bulge there!
I have an Invisibelt and LOVE it--in fact my mom got one after she saw mine as well! What also works similarly to an invisiblt is a ribbon belt--it's flat too.
I do the sam as Kate dose, even wearing the buckle to the side.
I'd never heard of Invisibelt before reading your post! What a fab idea! (I also like wearing belts, but have the pudge issue too!)
Thanks for the info - I'll be pointing to this post from my blog!
Thank you for answering my question so quickly!
Wow, I have never heard of this. Such a great idea! I'm not sure if I'd invest in one since I don't know how much wear I'd get, but I'm glad that there is a product like this out there just in case.
Hey, ladies, word is Invisibelt is introducing a new line soon and expanding their color selection for the current Invisibelt (per an email from the VP of Sales). I will keep everyone updated.
C Lo - I struggle with jeans too. That's why most days I put on one of three pairs that I have and love (from Target in years past, but I'm not loving their current selection). As for what I wear when I stay at home it is usually a pair of Yoga Pants (Black from Target or Brown from Sam's Club) and some kind of tee or casual tunic. Nothing fancy to say the least, but good enough to take the dogs out!
Wow! Those are fabulous!
Kimberly ~ Thanks so much for recommending the Invisibelt as an easy way to camouflage the "pudge". We've let our fans on Facebook know about your blog so they can check out your great fashion tips! (You can find our Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Invisibelt/61105886022 )
