DIY - Embellished Flats

While flipping through the March 2009 issue of Lucky I feel in ♥ with these jeweled flats by All Black.

Jeweled Flats Inspirations

However, I wasn't thrilled with their $130 pricetag, so I decided to make my own!

I had these black flats that I purchased from Urban Originals over a year ago for $8. I have worn them a few times, but they weren't anything special.

Also, I had a tub of fun buttons and beads from all of my crafty projects. I pulled out some that I thought would be great for this project, my favorite E6000 glue, a piece of black felt, and some "sticky back" velcro.

#1 - Cut out two half circles of felt to use as the base for the embellishments.

#2 - Layout a basic design of buttons and beads on both pieces of felt (not pictured).

#3 - Spread a layer of E6000 glue (I think this is better than hot glue because it has great staying power without the possibility of hurting yourself!) and glue down the buttons and beads in the design you determined in Step #2.

#4 - Continue to glue down beads and buttons until entire felt patch is covered.

#5 - Let patches dry for several hours or overnight.

#6 - Attach velcro to the back of the embellished patch.

#7 - Attach a patch to each shoe and woo-hoo - one of a kind embellished flats for a fraction of the price!
Update ~ After seeing how great they turned out I decided to upgrade my black flats with a black patent pair. I adore them and have worn them a hand full of times and received so many compliments!

If you decide to make a pair for yourself I would love to see a picture! Happy DIY-ing!

Also, if you want a pair, but aren't feeling very creative click here and buy a set for $15 - each pair is an original!

I am sooo doing that on my "staycation" this week! Very cute and I agree that yours are much better than the pricey version.

Oh, how nice! They came out really cute. I love working with E600 so much more than hot glue.. it stays and doesn't make your translucent beads/buttons look all nasty!

Okay, I must admit to being a bit skeptical about how the flats would look after, but I must admit that they came out pretty cute!

Your shoes are so cute.

Question about the velcro. Do you glue one side of it to the shoes?
