On Friday Megan posted about the J.Crew items toying with her heart. I usually try to avoid browsing J.Crew because the temptation and prices both run high. However, while "window-shopping" I came across this great belt. I love the concept and simplicity of the design, but the price tag of $38 for some chiffon and grosgrain ribbon was a bit much.
On Saturday I had plans to run some errands and swing into Jo-Ann, etc. Since I was going to be there away why not buy some tulle and ribbon to make myself a belt. For about $6 in supplies (which will give me enough material for a couple of belts) plus some items I already had at home I made an almost identical belt. Since I was so excited about my latest DIY project I thought I would share some step-by-step directions so you could make one also if you so desired.

That's so cool - I'm so jealous of you crafty people. No matter what I attempt, it comes out look like nonsense!
How crafty are you??!! Even if you didn't bribe us, you know I'd be all up on this - I love a project!
You're very crafty! I've always wanted to be but never manage to get it quite right.
The belt looks awesome, you are incredibly crafty! I really like making jewelry but I don't have the tools myself. My mother-in-law has a huge selection of beads and all sorts of other material. She lets me dig around in her supplies and create my own jewelry whenever I am at her house. She also provides technical help!:)
There once was a girl named Kimberly
Her fingers were really quite nimbl-y
Using some tulle as her craft
She came up with a rough draft
And made this really cute belt
For someone to win
Oh who could it be
Up piped Katie
Let it be me, awesome Kimberly!
Seriously, that is a super cute belt!
Oh, pick me, pick me! lol....
That is very cute and I never would have thought of replicating it myself!
Holy flippin' crap, you'd better pick KT! A limerick?! Come ON!!
Love all your outfits! I think the belt is so cute!
What a great project! You ARE awesome, Kimberly, and not just because you give away free stuff. =)
Sah-weet! I love this craft and especially the colors you choose! Sign me up for the chance to win one.
I stumbled across your site a bit ago and love the ideas you come up with (and how affordable they are) for fashion! Great inspiration! Love the crafty belt you made!
Hey, I just found your site via Domestic Sophisticate. I love the belt - I am very impressed with your "craftiness!" I would love to win one - I have a black dress that it would be perfect with!
What a great tutorial! I'm going to make some belts for me and my mom as soon as I can. But, of course, I wouldn't mind winning one, as well!
Ok the ribbon belt is very clever, and the fact that you can make it for nearly pennies is fantastic!
I'll love to win one!
Thank you for posting the how to! I also saw this belt at J Crew and laughed at the price. I wanted to make some as well and now I can with your help!
